Well if this guy’s goal was to keep his bicycle tire for getting stolen … mission accomplished. If on the other hand his goal was to keep his bicycle from getting stolen … this is a miserable failure.

this is actually unbelievably common. it started running rampant with the advent of “quick release” axles (which i can’t really make out, but it does look like that wheel has one), which means thieves can take off with it no-tools-required.
i’ve also seen people take cable locks or kryptonite locks (like that one) and chain their bike to things like parking meters - where one can just lift the entire lock over the top of the meter.
it’s a pretty sad world, but if you don’t put any thought into securing your stuff, you kinda have it coming.

That’s funny, actually today at work there were a bunch of us in the parking lot and across the street some punk was running down the sidewalk rolling a bike without a front tire.
We all got a laugh at how obviously that kid just ripped it off and couldn’t ride it away.
